CPR Training

The American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course is a comprehensive, instructor-led, or blended learning program designed for lay rescuers, employees, or anyone needing to meet OSHA requirements. It teaches essential skills to respond to and manage illnesses and injuries, CPR, and AED use in the first few minutes until professional help arrives. 

Key Course Components & Skills Taught:

  • First Aid Basics: Duties, roles, and responsibilities of rescuers; medical, injury, and environmental emergencies.
  • Life-Threatening Emergencies: How to recognize and treat severe bleeding, shock, heart attacks, strokes, and choking (adult/child/infant).
  • CPR & AED: Proper techniques for CPR and using an automated external defibrillator on adults (optional modules available for children/infants).
  • Specialized Topics: Opioid-associated life-threatening emergencies, drowning prevention, and using an epinephrine pen. 

Course Options & Certification:

  • Format: Available in instructor-led classroom training or blended learning (online portion + in-person skills session).
  • Card: Participants receive an AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course Completion Card, valid for two years.
  • Audience: Designed for non-healthcare professionals, such as teachers, lifeguards, and security staff, who need training to satisfy job or regulatory requirements. 

NOTE: This course does not meet the requirements for healthcare provider BLS training.

 

Eligibility

·         Must reside or work in the Elko New Market Police/Fire service district.

·         Must be at least 12 years of age or older to attend.

Class Enrollment

·         Minimum class size is 4 with a maximum of 12.

·         Class may be cancelled short notice due to low enrollment. Instructors will contact registrants via email should a class be cancelled due to low enrollment or inclimate weather.
